Solar PV Workshops

CREATE is co-hosting three solar PV Workshops with IREC.

December 4, 2009 at Cuesta College
November 11, 2009 at Oxnard College
September 4, 2009 at University of California Santa Barbara
Sign-up information for the November and December workshops will be posted on this page the first week of October, 2009.

IREC, was founded in 1982 as a non-profit organization, supports market-oriented services targeted at education, coordination, procurement, the adoption and implementation of uniform guidelines and standards, workforce development, and consumer protection.

IREC's mission is to accelerate the sustainable utilization of renewable energy sources and technologies in and through state and local government and community activities.

The Tehachapi Pass has one of California's larger Wind Farms (WF), generating electricity using wind turbines. The turbines have been in place since the early 1980s and have been upgraded and expanded through the years. You can see the wind turbines from State Route 58 and from Tehachapi-Willow Springs Road.  We have also included several pictures of this large wind farm in the galleries link above..

Other well-known wind turbine locations in California include the Altamont Pass Wind Farm, the San Gorgonio Pass Wind Farm, Solano Wind Farm, Orange Wind Farm, and Pacheco Pass Wind Farm.

California Renewable Energy Sources

California Wind Resource Potential Map (.pdf)

People have harnessed the wind to deliver energy for centuries. Today, wind generates electricity that powers millions of American homes and businesses and is one our nation’s fastest-growing sources of energy. Taking advantage of this abundant domestic resource to generate electricity helps meet America’s growing energy demands while improving our energy security and protecting our environment. (US Dept. Energy)

Callifornia Geothermal Energy Collaborative

Geothermal energy is the heat from the Earth. It's clean and sustainable. Resources of geothermal energy range from the shallow ground to hot water and hot rock found a few miles beneath the Earth's surface, and down even deeper to the extremely high temperatures of molten rock called magma. (US Dept. Energy)

California Solar Initiative

Photovoltaic cells convert sunlight directly into electricity and are made of semiconductors such as crystalline silicon or various thin-film materials. Photovoltaics can provide tiny amounts of power for watches, large amounts for the electric grid, and everything in between. (US Dept. Energy)
